Afghanistan

In 2002, FilmAid provided film screenings to the youth of Kabul.

Not only did the film screenings provide relief, entertainment, and hope to a community facing the early days of war, but it gave many their first ever experience of music and film, two things which had been banned under Taliban rule.


Haiti

FilmAid’s work in Haiti includes partnering with Cine Institute and Oxfam to create a short film about the needs of the community.

As well as partnering with IRC and IOM to produce and screen informational films to underprivileged communities on disease prevention, hurricane preparedness, and sanitation practices, partnering with Disney to screen family movie favorites, and screening the 2010 World Cup for 200,000 Haitians.


Hong Kong

From 2011-2019 FilmAid Asia supported the programs in Asia through Student Film production training programs.

In 2014, FilmAid Asia partnered with the Chicken Soup Programme to provide underprivileged children with privately hosted entertainment experiences, providing much needed psychological relief. Currently, the FilmAid Foundation (Sermpanya) oversees the Community Outreach programs in Hong Kong.


Jordan

To support the #WithSyria campaign, FilmAid was one of 130 organizations that sent a message to the world’s leaders: Don’t let the people of Syria lose another year to bloodshed and suffering.

Also, FilmAid screened the Palme d'Or-winning film, Le Ballon Rouge ("The Red Balloon"), to an enraptured audience of Syrian children, brought much needed joy to those displaced by the on-going tragedy in Syria nearly 60 years after its production.


Kosovo and Macedonia

Kosovo

FilmAid’s first mission included screenings of silent films, cartoon, and feature films for the refugee camps in the war-torn communities of Kosovo and Macedonia.

FilmAid employed local people, provided skills trainings, and projected essential and informational public service announcements.


Tanzania

In 2001, FilmAid began its screenings and Filmmaker Training Program in the Kibondo refugee camps, managed by UNHCR and the Tanzanian Ministry of Home Affairs.

FilmAid developed a substantial program within the camp, creating an active filmmaker training program and holding regular evening screenings. FilmAid's work continued until the closure of the camps in 2008.


Thailand

FilmAid Foundation (Sermpanya)’s refugee teams provide education through mobile cinema screenings to disseminate important and life enhancing messages as well as training on film production.

The pilot operations started in 2009 as FilmAid Asia however. From 2015 to the present, it operates as FilmAid Foundation (Sermpanya).


Uganda

In 2008, FilmAid co-presented a screening of War/Dance using mobile cinema units, to bring this documentary back to the people of Patongo Internally Displaced Persons camp in Afnorthern Uganda, where it was made.

War/Dance portrays an uplifting and hopeful moment in the lives of three children, who journey to Uganda's capital, Kampala, to compete in an annual music competition.


USA

FilmAid supported the displaced communities affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita by conducting film screenings of Make it Funky!

We also collaborated with Listen Up!, AnimAction, and LSU to start an animation program that allowed the young evacuees to express their feelings about the disaster through animation.
